  • Mark Hamill Regrets Criticizing 'Last Jedi' Version of Luke Skywalker

By close of play yesterday, Star Wars: The Last Jedi had grossed $397.3 million domestically, with a further $396.1 million from worldwide markets. But the actor recently admitted that he wasn't always on board with what director Ruan Johnson had in mind for the character.

Mark Hamill expressed his true feelings about Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Rian Johnson on a post he made on Twitter.

"I regret voicing my doubts & insecurities in public", Hamill tweeted to his more than 2.2 million followers. Creative differences are a common element of any project but usually remain private.

"All I wanted was to make a great movie". The good news for Disney is that the movie is now playing more female and younger.

The actor wrote that he should have kept his thoughts on the matter out of the public and that Johnson made a great film.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi opened the weekend in first place according to box office haul, not just in South Africa, but also in North America and another 53 territories ranging from Iceland and Australia to Norway, and from New Zealand to Switzerland.

During an interview with the Spanish outlet SensaCine, an emotional Hamill said, "I nearly had to think of Luke as another character".

He first took on the role of the now iconic Luke Skywalker back in 1977. He's not my Luke Skywalker, but I had to do what Rian wanted me to do because it serves the story well'.

"That's the problem. When I disagree with the direction of the character, I get a little mouthy", he said. Jedis do not give up.

It means that Star Wars: The Last Jedi ranks as the 5th best global box office opening weekend ever.
