Former President Barack Obama beat out President Donald Trump in Gallup's poll of most admired man and woman.

Gallup's December poll, published Wednesday, found 17 percent of respondents named Obama the man they admired most, a dip from 22 percent of respondents saying the same past year.

Michelle Obama retained her second-place finish-the second in a row for the former first lady.

Gallup has been asking about the most admired man since 1946 and the most admired woman since 1948.

President Trump finished second to his predecessor, Barack Obama, as America's Most Admired Man, according to a new Gallup poll.

Both Obama and Clinton have topped the respective lists for the past decade. "But the likelihood that she will continue to hold that honor in future years seems less certain, with her popularity at a nadir and the percentage naming her as most admired the lowest in 15 years", it stated.

This year marks the 16th consecutive year that Clinton has taken the top spot as the most admired woman. Clinton won the title this year in the same poll she registered a personal low favorable rating. The next winningest woman is Eleanor Roosevelt, at 13 times.

Gallup said its poll was conducted from December 4 to December 11 with a random sample of 1,049 adults, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 USA states and the District of Columbia. "She managed to win this year because she remains arguably more prominent than other contenders".

Other notable names making the top 10 include Pope Francis, Rev. Billy Graham, Oprah Winfrey and Sen. "However, retaining that stature may be more challenging in coming years with her political career likely over", the poll stated online.
