  • It will be a very cold, white Christmas in Great Falls

Saturday night through Sunday morning - Temperatures will fall below 32 degrees northwest of NYC. Northern sections of MA could receive up to 8 inches of snow.

This will make it slick to travel to early church services north or west of Boston.

Before the cold returns, we'll have our Christmas Eve disturbance to deal with. Many steep hills in Seattle and surrounding areas will be closed to prevent sliding accidents. If you're a mass transit rider, the snow will mean changes to some routes. A second storm will quickly develop off shore and swipe us with a period of snow and possibly snow and rain along the shore for Christmas Eve after midnight through Christmas Morning. Prior to this year, the Metro's last white Christmas was in 2015 - with 9 inches of snow.

As we head into Christmas Eve, we'll track out a light snow maker for the Ohio Valley. A Wind Advisory will be in effect for all of the Bay State from 1pm - 7pm, for wind 20-30mph with gusts to 50mph possible. Our wind chill will knock about five degrees off our air temperatures. Snow could fall at a rate of a half inch per hour on Sunday afternoon, the weather service said. "Some 1-2" could show up for northern parts of the state. The backside of the system could bring a quick 1-3 inches of snowfall due to some convection.

This blizzard wasn't quite a white Christmas-but East Coasters got their share of snow the day after. Our winds will also shift out of the north, and pick up, allowing temperatures to drop into the mid 30s inland, low 40s along the coast. The snow dragged New York City to a halt that year. So late tonight night through early Sunday morning allow extra time to get your destination until temps rise above freezing by midday with some sunshine and temps above freezing.
