Kim Jong-hyun - a Korean pop singer from the band SHINee - died on Monday, according to multiple reports.
The K-pop superstar, better known to his fans as just Jonghyun, was transported to a hospital after he was found unconscious by police on Monday at his apartment in Seoul's Gangnam district. The messages read "This is my last farewell", "Things have been so hard", "Please let me go and say I did a good job", prompting his sister to make an emergency call to the police.
The singer was moved to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead, police said.
He was one of the five members of SHINee, who have had a string of number one hits in their home country.
The singer, whose full name is Kim Jong-hyun, was reportedly lying in a room with a coal briquette burning on a frying pan, a common method of suicide in South Korea.

Dubbed "The Princes of K-pop" by CNN earlier this year, SHINee was first formed in 2008.
The death of Jonghyun shocked the close-knit industry on December 18 when his death was confirmed after a suspected suicide, however it has now been revealed that in the days leading up to his death, he was on the set of a new music video, working hard on his solo career. "Tell me I did well", and "final farewell". SM Entertainment had not issued a statement on Jonghyun's death at press time.
