Introducing Snooze to Give You More Control Of Your News Feed

  • Introducing Snooze to Give You More Control Of Your News Feed

A new feature being rolled out by Facebook could help with that. So, yes, you need it to mute some of your annoying "friends" on Facebook. With Snooze, you don't have to unfollow or unfriend permanently, rather just stop seeing someone's posts for a short period of time.

"For example, on social media, you can passively scroll through posts, much like watching TV, or actively interact with friends - messaging and commenting on each other's posts".

If there's a friend, group, or Page that you're getting too many posts from in your timeline, you can now tap the three dots near the top right of any of their posts, and choose "Snooze [name] for 30 days".

Giving Facebook users more control over what they see in their news feeds may allow members of the mental health community to protect themselves from content they might find triggering without the permanence of unfollowing a person or page.

Don't worry, those you snooze will not be notified. Snooze offers a temporary solution instead of a more permanent one. As the outlet points out, Snooze also allow Pages and Groups to retain less-active users that would otherwise unlike a page or leave a group. In fact, Twitter has it since 2014. In the last few weeks, two of its former executives voiced their concerns about the company's impact on children's brains.

Chamath Palihapitiya, who left his role as VP for user growth in 2011, said: The short-term, dopamine-driven feedback loops that we have created are destroying how society works.

But Facebook stated that it had become a socially conscious social network in recent years.

Facebook is well aware of the studies showing it can have a negative effect on well-being and has been taking steps to make itself better for the mental health of its users.

For now, our Facebook here has not been updated with the new feature, but we should expect to see it here very soon, as Facebook has simply said it is rolling the feature out globally today. The reason for it is not clear.

The new feature which is now rolling out will be available by clicking the option button (an arrow) at the top right of the post, and selecting the new Snooze option.
