  • Forecast Lake snow for parts of CNY late tonight into Sunday

Watch that area of snow develop by the evening commute.

The National Weather Service says winter storm watches are in effect from Monday night into Wednesday morning for the region stretching from NY southwest corner to the Vermont border.

News 8 Meteorologist Josh Nichols says you can expect 1 to 4 inches of snow by Tuesday morning, and another 3 to 4 inches during the day on Tuesday. Lesser amounts, around 5 inches, are in the forecast for the Southtowns and Genesee county.

More than a foot of snow was expected in some of the areas to the west and southwest of Rochester.

High pressure moves in by midday Monday, bringing an end to this first round of lake-effect.

A storm system will move into the Great Lakes on Wednesday.

It still does appear that areas southeast of Lake Ontario will be line for the steadiest and heaviest lake snow which would include the Greater Syracuse area Tuesday night and Wednesday. The best accumulations with this larger-scale system should be over the higher terrain in the Catskills and Adirondacks, and to the south of Lake Erie into Pennsylvania, where flow off of Lakes Huron and Erie will enhance overall totals.

Snow should ease in Buffalo and the Niagara Frontier after lunch Tuesday as winds shift out of the north. Erie, Pennsylvania, and southwestern NY, as well as spots south of Lake Ontario, including Rochester and Syracuse, are where model guidance is dumping the heaviest accumulations. - Arctic air with some lake snow midweek.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Monroe and Wayne Counties from Midnight on Monday night until 7pm on Wednesday.

The lake-effect snow Tuesday may drift as far inland as Kent County, although most of it will be focused on the lakeshore. Winds will not be as gusty as they were last week, but we can not rule out a few gusts near 30 miles per hour at times.
