Apple has announced its editorial picks for the best apps, movies, TV shows, books, and podcasts available from its various online content stores.

The Best iPhone App and Game are the meditation app Calm and the puzzle game Splitter Critters.

Similarly to previous annual charts, Apple has revealed top charts for the most popular apps and games of the year too.

Apple said its editors and curators identified four breakout trends in app culture in 2017: the introduction of augmented reality, the rise of real-time competitive gaming, apps that transform storytelling and reading and those that focus on mental health and mindfulness. The most downloaded apps include Bitmoji, Snapchat, YouTube, Messenger, Instagram and Facebook.

Game apps, on the other hand, were dominated by Ludo King, 8 Ball Pool, Super Mario Run, Candy Crush Saga, Sniper 3D, and others. See the full charts in the App Store. With no need to use special glasses, users seemed to have adapted quickly to the new trend which was brought about thanks to the iOS 11 update and worked well on all of Apple's recently launched iPhones and iPads.

To begin with, on Apple Music, Drake topped album of the year with More Life, while Ed Sheeran's Shape of You got top song honors. Apple said Taylor Swift's new album Reputation has already reached No. 3 on the 2017 U.S. top album chart, an impressive feat considering it was just released on November 10.

Apple also listed the top movies in the Apple Store, with Disney's Moana ranks first followed by Wonder Woman, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in the third spot. Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead were the top TV shows of the year while NPR's Fresh Air was the most downloaded podcast.

You can see all the top charts and recommendations in the App Store and iTunes Store now.
