Given that Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier left the stadium in the same manner on a scary injury earlier in the game when he was attempting a tackle, it seemed even more tasteless for Smith-Schuster stand over Burfict and taunt him.

Smith-Schuster went high as he hit Vontaze Burfict on a crack-back block during Monday night's win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Jon Runyan, the NFL vice president of football operations, wrote in a letter to Smith-Schuster that he violated a rule that prohibits unnecessary contact with a player who is in a defenseless posture. Gronkowski was also suspended one game for intentionally falling down on top of Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre'Davious White and striking him in the back of the head.

To make matters worse, Smith-Schuster actually stood over Burfict and celebrated after the hit. Runyan also took issue as Smith-Schuster "celebrated" the hit, writing "your conduct following the hit fell far below the high standards of sportsmanship expected of an National Football League player".

There's not a set rule for what gets a player suspended. "I don't know that that's necessarily fair".

By a kid who just got his driver's license, is barely old enough to drink, but has already cemented a legacy in Steelers history by simply punching the bully in the mouth; or more accurately, blocking him in to next week. Burfict is one of the NFL's villains, an oft-punished player due to dirty hits.

"I was just playing to the whistle", he said.

"Obviously, we don't like the taunting, standing over him, things like that", he said.

The Steelers have a big Week 14 game coming against another division rival, with the Baltimore Ravens coming to Heinz Field for the Sunday night game.

UPDATE: Smith-Schuster's suspension is now official.

"I'll acknowledge there were some unfortunate things in that game that we don't need in our game, by both sides", Tomlin said. The unsportsmanlike conduct is not me.

As he did so, Pro Bowl Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown yelled the word "Karma" over and over in the background.

A sparkling rookie season for Long Beach Poly and USC alum JuJu Smith-Schuster turned controversial on Monday night and Tuesday morning.
