Arkansas Focused on Chad Morris in Coaching Search

The University of Arkansas and SMU Football coach Chad Morris dotted the contract i's and crossed the t's for Morris Wednesday afternoon officially to be announced as the Razorbacks new head football coach. ESPN reports the deal is in the $4 million range with the AP adding that the deal is for six years.
Morris, 49, had a 14-22 record as the coach at SMU, but his team's performance had improved dramatically over the past three seasons. Their record was 2-10 his first year, 5-7 in 2016, and went 7-5 this past year.
Before SMU, Morris spent four seasons at Clemson, where he helped turn the Tigers into an offensive power house with his "tempo" approach and played a major role in the recruitment of quarterback Deshaun Watson, now with the Houston Texans.
Morris would become the 33rd head coach in Arkansas history. He has since led the Mustangs from two wins to five wins to a shot at seven wins this year. SMU ranks 13th nationally this season in total offense (493.8 yards per game) and eighth in scoring offense (40.2 points per game). Arkansas hired Yurachek as its new athletic director on Monday. "I am pleased that Hunter Yurachek had the opportunity to be involved in the final decision and offer and we can not wait to have Chad leading our program".
Other candidates for the Arkansas job included Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables and Memphis coach Mike Norvell, who agreed to a contract extension Tuesday to remain at the school.
Morris replaces five-year Arkansas Coach Bret Bielema fired November 24 after the Razorbacks concluded a 4-8 overall/1-7 SEC campaign.
