  • Mueller Reassigned Top FBI Agent in Russia Probe over anti-Trump Texts

Strzok was removed this summer after the inspector general of Justice Department discovered him and another person from Mueller's team exchanging anti-Trump text messages.

The agent, Peter Strzok, is considered one of the most experienced and trusted FBI counterintelligence investigators.

The exact nature of the text messages has not been made public, but defenders of Strzok and Page have reportedly called the allegations "overblown" and said there wasn't any misconduct.

To his credit, Special Counsel Robert Mueller, whose investigation has already cost taxpayers over $5 million, shuffled Strzok off to the Siberian bowels of the FBI's human resources department.

A review of the texts is now underway to determine whether the two agents allowed political bias to influence their work, but regardless of what that investigation concludes, the story is sure to provide ammunition for those, like President Trump and his defenders, who have accused the Mueller investigation, FBI, and overall intelligence community of being driven by partisanship.

And according to The Washington Post, Strzok exchanged the messages with Lisa Page, an Federal Bureau of Investigation lawyer who was also assigned to and later removed from Mueller's team.

Trump has criticized the FBI's handling of the Clinton email investigation, initially citing it as his reason for firing former FBI director James Comey on May 9. The people briefed on the case said the transfer followed the discovery of text messages in which Mr. Strzok and a colleague reacted to news events, like presidential debates, in ways that could appear anti-Trump. Law enforcement officials who have worked with Strzok told the New York Times they've seen no evidence to suggest he let his political views influence the investigation.

Strzok's attorney refused to comment on the publication.

A spokesperson for Mueller's team confirmed to BuzzFeed News that Strzok was no longer assigned part of the investigation. A spokeswoman at the Justice Department said "we are aware of the allegation and taking any and all appropriate steps".

Mueller has so far charged four people in his investigation of possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian officials, most recently former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

By hiding from Congress, and from the American people, documented political bias by a key FBI head investigator for both the Russian Federation collusion probe and the Clinton email investigation, the FBI and DOJ engaged in a willful attempt to thwart Congress' constitutional oversight responsibility.
