Samantha Bee Spoofs Project Veritas Sting Operation Aimed at Washington Post

  • Donald Trump funded group that tried to plant fake news stories

The woman was seen walking into the headquarters Monday morning of Project Veritas, a political operation that employs deceptive tactics in attempts to embarrass journalists and expose alleged bias. He's not the only one in the administration to have alluded to Project Veritas before, either.

"I certainly did not expect the tweet to go that viral", Rome said. It's something newspaper reporters learn on Day 1 in college journalism (or possibly Day 2 if the professor is more inclined to discuss "who, what, where, when, why and how" of news writing). She claimed that she lived in the Talladega area for one summer, attending a church youth group, where she allegedly met Moore in 1992.

During interviews, Phillips repeatedly pressed Post reporters to say whether they thought her allegations could derail Moore's campaign and asked for their assurances that it would - a red flag that raised suspicions for them. Reinhard told her in a subsequent text message that she could not predict what the impact would be. And they were likely to be wary because Moore's entire response to the story has been built around discrediting the messenger. Interestingly enough, records of the president's charitable donations show that Trump's foundation donated to Project Veritas in 2015.

"So my whole thing is, like, I want him to be completely taken out of the race", she said. "I just really love girl things and feminism", he says, as he tries to convince Bee he's flawless for the job. "So, I don't know what you think about that".

And this, from CBS: "Fake Roy Moore Accuser Approached Washington Post in Sting Operation". It didn't happen, but she kept pressing the point in a way that would make any reporter nervous.

Phillips told the Post she now lives in NY.

The woman accused of lying to the Post on behalf of the group - who said her name was Jaime Phillips - had posted a GoFundMe fundraising page, asking for cash for her new job where she'd work to "combat the lies and deceit of the liberal mainstream media". She named a woman named Kathy Johnson as her contact.

Phillips admitted she had created the post and said it was for a job with the Daily Caller that had since fallen through.

"I was looking to take a job last summer and to be in NY, but it fell through", Phillips replied. One of the donors to it matches Phillips's daughter name, according to public records.

Reporters from the Post reportedly saw the woman, identified as Jaime Phillips walking into the NY offices of Project Veritas.

On Monday night, the video arrived.

Nearly every newspaper has an editorial board that leans ideologically one way or another and has strong opinions about issues of the day.

Another Post employee, described in the video as Joey Marburger, "director of product", gives Post owner - and mega-billionaire - Jeff Bezos credit for its controversial Trump-era slogan, "Democracy dies in darkness". But that's already been The Post. "We always honour "off-the-record" agreements when they're entered into in good faith", executive editor Martin Baron was quoted as saying.

However, despite the unprecedented willingness of the public to believe women right now, we're also facing a highly partisan political climate, in which many people have become convinced that the media is lying to them.
