Tiger Woods on comeback trail

"I'm loving life now", he said Tuesday. He hasn't played a tournament since, undergoing a fourth back surgery in April - not to mention another embarrassing off-the-course incident a couple of months ago.

Woods said he has played practice rounds at home with the likes of Rickie Fowler, Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson.

Woods reached a low point on Memorial Day when he was arrested in the middle of the night after Florida police found his vehicle parked awkwardly on the side of the road about 15 miles from his home, with Woods asleep behind the wheel, the engine running and a blinker on.

Tests revealed that five drugs - Vicodin, Dilaudid, Xanax, Ambien and THC - were in his system after he was taken into custody. If he performs like he did last time at the Hero that would be fantastic. "A lot of friends have helped me". I didn't realize how bad my back had become and how much I was flinching and just how slow I was. But I don't have the pain. "I would like to say that I am here to win the damn thing, like I always do". But I don't have the pain. "I don't have these issues anymore".

On Tuesday, the victor of 79 PGA titles looked happy just to be able to play. That might have been the last time he had reasonable health.

After his Memorial Day arrest, the 14-time major champion said in a statement that alcohol was not involved but that he had an "unexpected reaction" to prescription medication. "I hadn't done that in two years".

The World Challenge is a four-round, stroke-play event with a $3.5 million purse, a $1 million winner's prize and official world golf rankings points awarded.

Woods' comeback this week will make it the 10th time he has returned from layoffs that were 10 weeks or longer. Now that I'm feeling the way I'm feeling, it's just hard to imagine that I was living the way I was living with my foot not working, my leg not working, and then the hours of not being able to sleep at all because of the pain.

Tiger Woods will get to test himself against the world's best when he returns to action after a nine-month absence, in the 2017 Hero World Challenge, beginning in Albany (Bahamas) from November 30. Spieth was T6 previous year in the Bahamas.

"I would love to give you a better answer but I just really don't know yet", the 14-time major victor told Golf Channel.

Lewis also asked Woods if he considered retiring from the sport to which Woods responded, "I don't know if retirement is the word, but I didn't think I could ever play golf with my friends again because I spent most of previous year in bed".

The tournament starts Thursday.
