  • Ivanka Trump lobbies for women at entrepreneurship summit in India

Formerly a top executive at her family's company in NY and now a White House adviser, Ivanka Trump is scheduled to deliver a speech at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit, and the Indian government pulled out all the stops before her arrival, according to NBC News.

Pitching for access to capital and equitable laws for women entrepreneurs, the 36-year-old businesswoman and fashion designer said closing the gender entrepreneurship gap could push the global GDP by up to two per cent.

Turmp, who was invited to the summit by Modi during his visit to the White House in June, is leading the U.S. contingent at the summit themed Women First, Prosperity for All.

The three-day event, being co-hosted here by the United States and India, is being attended by 1,500 entrepreneurs, investors and eco-system supporters from 159 countries.

US President Donal Trump's daughter and Advisor Ivanka Trump on Tuesday said that globally between 2014 and 2016, entrepreneurship activity among women increased by 10 percent globally.

The annual entrepreneurship conference will focus on the theme this year of "Women first, prosperity for all", and involves networking, mentoring and workshops.

"She is the ideal person to make a visit like this as she has impacted lives of so many people and she is unlike her father who doesn't enjoy good reputation here", office worker Janakiram Mutyala told NBC.

Referring to US President Donald Trump, and India-US ties, she asserted that as President Trump said earlier, India has a true friend in the White House.

Modi stressed the importance of women in Indian economics and culture and noted that the Indian Constitution guarantees one-third representation to women in local government. This facility would provide access to capital, networks, and mentorship for women in developing countries, she said. "In the past 11 months, we have expanded apprenticeship programs and prioritized STEM education to ensure that women - and men - have more opportunities to master the skills that drive progress in the 21st century".

In her speech, Trump listed out initiatives by the USA administration to promote women in business.

"When women work, it creates a unique multiplier effect. Now, your tech centers may even outshine your world famous Biryani", she said, and recalled that Microsoft's Satya Nadella went to school here in Hyderabad.

To be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, more than 1200 young entrepreneurs, a majority of whom are women, from 127 countries would attend the summit.
