Shoppers evacuated after reports of shots fired at NY mall

A busy mall in the New York State was evacuated Sunday after two people suffered minor injuries when a gun was sacked at the floor, police said.

The shooting was reported at an American Eagle store in the Galleria at Crystal Run in Middletown around 3:15 p.m. Sunday. Details on any injuries were not immediately available.

Two individuals were injured, as indicated by News 12 Westchester, yet the degree of their wounds was not promptly clear. Middletown is about 70 miles north of New York City.

CBS2's Brian Conybeare has learned from mall security that the entire mall was closed and on lockdown as of 5 p.m. The victims were transported to Orange Regional Medical Center to receive treatment and are expected to survive.


The person who fired the shot is not in custody, Hertman said.

Hertman said they did not yet know whether the gun was shot accidentally or intentionally.

Video posted to social media showed armed officers scouring the shopping mall while shoppers ran toward the exits.
