In their statement, the band wrote, "Malcolm, along with Angus, was the founder and creator of AC/DC".

The guitarist retired from his lengthy run with the band in 2014 due to the crippling effects of dementia. His loyalty to the fans was unsurpassed.

The Young brothers lost their older brother George Young, the Easybeats guitarist and AC/DC's longtime producer, in October at the age of 70.

Young had been suffering with dementia for the past three years, an illness that forced his retirement from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-inducted band he founded with his brother Angus Young in 1973. "As a brother, it is hard for me to say with words what he has meant in my life".

Linda and the rest of his family were at his bedside when he died at home, a Saturday statement from the band said. He was replaced by his nephew, Stevie Young, for the band's world tour in 2015. From the beginning, he always knew what he wanted to accomplish, and with his younger brother, he has conquered the music scene by giving the best of himself at every concert. "The link that we had been unique and special.", he wrote.

AC/DC's music is rock and roll stripped down to pure muscle and bone, like a supercharged version of Chuck Berry.

Some of the band's most popular songs include "Back in Black", "Thunderstruck", "Hells Bells", "You Shook me all Night Long" and "For Those About to Rock".

The legendary band announced that Young had died on their Facebook page early this morning (Nov. 18) with a heartfelt tribute and black-and-white photo of Young.

Malcolm is survived by a wife and two children.

"The family have asked instead of flowers to send donations to The Salvation Army".
