GameStop "Temporarily Pauses" its PowerPass Used Game Lending Service

GameStop was set to offer its PowerPass program to a wider audience by the end of this week, but it has now halted the service indefinitely. For customers who had already bought in on the PowerPass program, GameStop is offering a full refund, plus an additional used game to make amends.
The program, as it was originally revealed, works like this: For $60 you get a 6-month rental subscription that allows you to visit any GameStop store and "rent" one of the used games in stock. They've been told to store the material in their backrooms until further notice. We feel this is the right thing to do for now to ensure we are able to provide our guests an exceptional service.
PowerPass was an intriguing idea when it was first announced but GameStop's decision to put the program on pause may suggest the service hasn't been met with quite as much interest as they would have liked.
For now, buying games at GameStop requires old-fashioned monetary exchange.
PowerPass has the potential to be a very popular service - that is if the catalog of games available is relatively large and up-to-date.
The service, which soft-launched this week at some locations, is called PowerPass.
But according to a report from Kotaku, just days before the service's full launch on November 19th, GameStop has chose to "temporarily pause" the roll out of the new service.
Regardless, it's worth noting that, according to Kotaku, GameStop employees have simply been instructed to remove PowerPass advertising from the front of their stores and place it in the back for safekeeping. The PowerPass program was just way too advanced for them to handle, giving retail employees serious issues. GameStop is yet to confirm if and when this program will be launched again.
