New Moore accuser alleges US Senate candidate restrained, groped her at 16

The press conference comes four days after The Washington Post first reported on sexual misconduct allegations against Moore, including from one woman who claimed he initiated sexual contact with her when she was 14 and he was 32.

McConnell also said he thinks Moore should "step aside".

When she fought back, he gave up and told her: "You're just a child and he said I'm the district attorney, if you tell anyone about this no one will ever believe you".

Moore eventually stopped, Nelson said, and warned her no one would believe her if she shared her story.

Walker's office did not immediately respond Monday to an inquiry asking if his views on Moore had changed or whether he wanted to address the statements from Shilling and Taylor.

"Mitch McConnell, the way he's been - this clearly felt nearly orchestrated", Todd said.

GOP leaders have been questioned over whether they maintain support for Moore despite the allegations, and on Monday, Sen.

The reporter's comments come after the Washington Post report published last week led members of the Republican Party to distance themselves from the Senate candidate.

McConnell told reporters in his home state of Kentucky that party officials were considering whether a Republican write-in candidate could be found to challenge Moore in the December 12 special election. The Republican Senate campaign arm on Friday severed its fund-raising relationship with him for the special election to fill a seat vacated by Jeff Sessions when he became US attorney general earlier this year.

Moore, too, has tried to raise money from the controversy, writing in a fundraising pitch that the "vicious and sleazy attacks against me are growing more vicious by the minute". Moore will face Democrat Doug Jones in the general election.

"If true, the allegations leveled against Roy Moore are disturbing", U.S. Rep. And any effort to add odd as a write-in candidate would threaten to divide the GOP vote in a way that would give the Democratic candidate a greater chance of winning. "Because there are groups that don't want me in the United States Senate", he said, naming the Democratic Party and the Republican establishment and accusing them of working together. "I sometimes wonder, how much does it take for people to believe women in these instances?"

Moore is an outspoken Christian conservative and former state Supreme Court judge.

"President Trump is the leader of the Republican Party in America".

But a write-in candidacy would be complicated by the fact that Moore's name has already been printed on absentee voter ballots and the deadline for withdrawal from the race has long since passed.

Walker was asked in the Sunday interview if Moore should bow out of the race in the light of the allegations.
