Donald Trump has sarcastically declared he would never describe Kim Jong Un as "short and fat", in a series of tweets that also saw him take aim at the "haters and fools" critical of his push for closer ties with Russian Federation.

Trump goes on to say sarcastically, "Oh well, I try so hard to be his friend - and maybe someday that will happen!"

Trump's tweet was part of a series of tweets that included China's plan of "upping the sanctions" against North Korea and how Chinese President Xi Jinping wants to "denuclearize" the country.

As Trump has made his way through South Korea, Japan and China this week - touting the strength of the USA alliance and commanding North Korea to "not try us" - the regime has remained quiet. The post came in response to the country's foreign ministry calling Trump "an old lunatic" over his speech in South Korea. And do not try us.

Asked if he could see himself being friends with Kim, Trump said: "That might be a odd thing to happen but it's a possibility".

On Saturday, Kim's government responded by accusing Trump of trying to demonize North Korea, keep it apart from the global community and undermine its government.

It has been 56 days since North Korea's last ballistic missile test - an intermediate-range KN-17 that flew over the Japanese island of Hokkaido.

Addressing a press conference later, Trump declared his belief that it was possible for the two leaders to be "friends". "If that did happen, it would be a good thing for, I can tell you, for North Korea".

His comments came after Trump threatened in his maiden United Nations address to totally destroy the country of 26 million people if the USA were threatened.

"Every step you take down this dark path increases the peril you face". It could be something that could happen.

Town told ABC News that if Pyongyang conducted a test during or following Trump's trip, it would likely be with a Hwasong-14, what the US refers to as the KN-20 - a two-stage intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

In a stunning admission, Lt Gen Jouas said the USA could face problems in getting reinforcements or new supplies to the Korean Peninsula, adding troops "may well find their bases subject to attack by conventional or chemical weapons, which will further delay their entry into the war".

We'll see what happens now.
