Meanwhile, Tunisia on Saturday booked their place in next year's finals after securing a point from a goalless draw at home against neighbors Libya.

In Group A, DR Congo, on 10 points, were still in with a chance to catch leaders Tunisians on 13 points, but despite a late 3-1 win over Guinea, it was too little too late.

Diving saves kept Youssef Msakni, Anice Badri and Ghilane Chaalani from scoring as Nashnush proved a one-man roadblock.

The two goals were scored in the first half through Nabil Dirar and Medhi Benatia.

On Saturday, Morocco and Tunisia both qualified for the 2018 World Cup after their respective victories against Ivory Coast and Libya.

The teams of Saudi Arbia, Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco were able to qualify for the World Cup, the World Cup since its inception in 1930 did not witness the presence of four Arab teams, where previously the maximum number of Arabs in the World Cup was three, back in 1986 and 1998.

Libya had been forced to play all of their home games at neutral venues, including Tunisia, because of a Federation Internationale de Football Association ban on internationals in the country, where the security situation is judged unsafe for visiting teams.

Rattled Ivory Coast fell further behind as they failed to cut off a corner and Juventus defender Benatia struck a first-time shot into the net.

Tempers spilled over as the two sides exchanged wild tackles and punches in the closing stages and Ivorian fans pelted the pitch with objects.

Both teams needed a point to qualify for the global soccer phenomenon which will be hosted by Russian Federation.

Ivory Coast, who never looked like recovering from the first-half blows, came second with eight points followed by Gabon with six and Mali with four.
