In the US state of Oklahoma, a local resident was sentenced to 10 years in prison for marriage with their own biological mother, reports the Tulsa World.

But their marriage was brought to the attention of authorities during a child welfare investigation, according to the Associated Press.

Authorities say a state Department of Human Services child welfare investigator discovered information during an inquiry that led her to believe Misty Spann and Patricia Spann were in involved in an incestuous relationship.

According to an affidavit, Patricia told police she and Misty "hit it off" after reuniting.

Patricia said she didn't think she was breaking any laws by marrying Misty because her name is no longer listed on her daughter's birth certificate, according to officials.

Patricia pleaded not guilty to the charges related to her marriage to Misty, though her court case will not begin until January because she needs to have surgery before then, reports News OK. She was also once married to her son, who had the marriage annulled after claiming incest.

It's not the first time she has married one of her children.

She reportedly said her mother told her she had received legal advice indicating that their marriage was legal.

She was sentenced to 10 years of probation and ordered to get counseling.

The marriage between Misty and her mother was annulled October 12, six weeks after Misty filed for an annulment "by reason of illegality and fraud", the Tulsa World reports. That marriage was annulled in 2010, records show. "She forced my sister into this, there's a lot of people that know it". "Why would you want to be with one of your own kids? When I went to school with her, she had a girlfriend, and they both worked at Sonic".

Under Oklahoma law, marrying a close relative is considered incest whether or not the relationship is sexual.

She wrote a book about the lust she felt for the adult son she had given up for adoption 26 years earlier.
