Ex- Trump aide Flynn investigated over plot to kidnap Turkish dissident

  • Fethullah Gulen lives in a compound in the small Poconocs town of Saylorsburg Pennsylvania

Flynn resigned as Trump's national security adviser on February 13 after only 24 days on the job.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the alleged plan being investigated would have paid Flynn and his son Michael Flynn Jr. up to $15 million for delivering Fethullah Gulen to the Turkish government. Gulen has denied Erdogan's claims.

Flynn's talks with Turkish officials allegedly involved a plan to forcibly take Gulen, who lives in a compound in Monroe County, to a private jet and fly him to the Turkish prison island of Imrali, the Journal reported, citing a person it didn't name.

The FBI is seeking to determine if former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn met with senior Turkish officials ahead of President Trump's inauguration to discuss Flynn secretly carrying out directives from Ankara while in the White House, according to reports. What's more, the individuals who were reportedly interviewed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation "didn't attend the December meeting and didn't have direct knowledge" of what transpired there.

CNN reported earlier this week that special counsel Robert Mueller's investigators are examining Flynn's alleged participation in discussions about the idea of removing the cleric who has been living in exile in Pennsylvania.

Multiple sources with knowledge of the investigation confirmed the direction of Mueller's probe to The Wall Street Journal Friday.

Flynn disclosed that meeting, but not the one in December, when he registered as a foreign agent of Turkey in March, just weeks after he was sacked from the White House.

Flynn is also under legal scrutiny by Mueller's team for undisclosed lobbying that he did during the presidential campaign on behalf of the Turkish government, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The investigation is being looked into by Mueller's sprawling probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election and other related matters. The administration says that Flynn was let go for lying to Vice President Mike Pence about his interactions with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak. Friday's report describes a second meeting involving both Flynns at the 21 Club restaurant, a prohibition-era NY speakeasy patronised by Trump, in mid-December.

It is unclear how Flynn, as national security adviser, could have successfully carried out either alleged request. These include Flynn's partners, Bijan Kian and Brian McCauley, and Flynn's son, Michael G. Flynn. Flynn penned an op-ed last November suggesting the USA should expel Gulen.
