Police block the main road leading to the Banksia Public School after the crash that caused the deaths of two boys.

Police confirmed the boys, both aged 8, suffered cardiac arrest and died in hospital after a female driver crashed her Toyota Kluger into a classroom at Banksia Road Primary School at Greenacre Tuesday morning.

The woman driver, 52, was being questioned and undergoing alcohol and drug testing.

She said: "There were a number of distressed and overwhelmed children and teachers at a scene of a frightful accident".

Student Mariam Issmail told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that she saw a teacher faint after the crash, while others loaded children into ambulances.

It's understood police will be alleging Ms Al-Shennag was distracted by something in her vehicle shortly before the incident. "She wouldn't have got to see him before he died", he said. A 52-year-old woman was driving the auto and police believe the crash was not intentional.

"Obviously they were crying, they were distressed, some were asking for their parents, that's a natural response in such a awful set of circumstances".

A witness reported seeing an elderly woman at the scene who appeared distressed.

Two chaplains were brought in to the school to support the victims.

"It is very, very hard because we are parents ourselves, we are human beings".

Her licence was also suspended and she was released on bail.

Police are investigating how the crash happened, but NSW Police Commander Stuart Smith said: 'We do not believe this was an intentional act'. "It is a crash investigation", he said.

Police said the children were taken from the classroom after the accident to a separate location where the five who were seriously injured were identified and rushed to hospital. Police are asking parents who wish to collect their children to go to the school's Boronia Rd entrance. A further 17 children and a teacher were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
