  • County official tells CNN more than 20 killed in Texas church attack

"Our thanks to law enforcement for their response".

In a phone interview on Sunday afternoon, he described Sutherland Springs as "a one-blinking-light town".

US President Donald Trump, on a visit to Japan, tweeted his concern, saying he was "monitoring the situation". The FBI & law enforcement are on the scene.

Trump is in Japan as part of a 12-day, five-country Asian trip.

Helicopters and emergency personnel were arriving at the scene, and agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were heading to the scene, the bureau said.

"We had some first responders in our church who immediately left and went down there and my church, we did what we do, we started praying for everybody". Authorities say the attacker is dead.

Police said there were multiple fatalities and multiple wounded, but an exact number has not been released. Some things that get reported by the media will later turn out to be wrong.

A spokesman for Brooke Army Medical Center also confirmed to CNN that the facility has received patients from the shooting, but the spokesman didn't have a specific number. The hospital is in Floresville, Texas. Multiple people were killed in the attack, he said. The gunman has been killed, he said. He said that the gunman was dead and that he did not know how many people had died.

Sutherland Springs is a community of about 400 people 30 miles (48 kilometres) southeast of San Antonio.

The church is a white, wood-framed building with a double-door at the entrance and a Texas flag on a pole at the front area, according to its website, which was down shortly after the shooting.
