Help getting health care

  • S&P: ObamaCare enrollment hurt by Trump uncertainty

Barack Obama isn't president anymore, but that didn't stop him from stepping into the limelight on the first day of sign-ups under his namesake health law Wednesday.

Obama's efforts to advertise the enrollment window during his administration included making a video on Snapchat where he used a filter on his face, for BuzzFeed where he used a selfie stick, and on amusing or Die's series "Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis".

Confusion reigns because of misinformation which has been spread about the act, many states never signed up for it and there are those who seek to destroy it.

In the lead-up to the enrollment window, the agency created a number of ads it posted on the Instagram account for Coverage Coalition.

The Trump administration cut the law's advertising budget by 90 percent for next year. Since then, President Donald Trump has inaccurately claimed the ACA is dead. For one, the time to enroll is shorter.

The Marketplace typically covers home-based businesspeople, contract employees, early retirees and those who can't otherwise get coverage from a spouse. In 2015, $51.2 million was spent and 9.6 million people signed up.

Starting Wednesday, Texans can enroll in health care coverage for 2018 on healthcare.gov through December 15.

"I understand prices are going up, what will be my new cost, am I going to have to pay a lot more?"

How can that be? Many receive tax subsidies that reduce high premiums. Officials are downplaying the fact that the subsidies will cover most, if not all, of the increase for many consumers.

Meanwhile, Trump marked the start of open enrollment with a set of tweets promoting the repeal of Obamacare's individual mandate, a key provision of the law which requires almost all Americans to have coverage or pay a penalty.

More than 9 million people now have private plans through the ACA's government-sponsored markets.

Many "navigators"-individuals and organizations that help consumers enroll in marketplace plans-are facing sharp budget cuts". Some 80 percent of enrollees will be able to find a policy for $75 a month or less - up from 71 percent this year and the highest share so far. "That's what we want everyone to know". Their costs, however, are generally tied to rising "Obamacare" rates.

Prices hikes are more mild for gold and bronze plans.

"If your plan is the same as past year, they will probably just renew you which will mean a premium increase and chances are your situation changed", said Fackler.

A new study finds that older people with low incomes almost everywhere will have access to free "Obamacare" health coverage next year.

Eleven health insurers are approved to sell 74 plans in Washington's 2018 individual health insurance market. The IRS has said it will start rejecting returns filed in 2018 that don't indicate whether the taxpayer had health insurance. All insurers must offer at least one silver and one gold plan.

Victor Rodriguez said during a phone-banking session in Miami that he recently began getting insurance through disability, but he's planning to re-enroll his wife through the federal marketplace.
