In a fresh attack on Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday accused the opposition of impeding him from doing any developmental work in the flood-struck Kedarnath in 2013.

Prime Minister Modi further divulged his plans for Kedarnath saying that through the work that has been done at the shrine, he wants to show the world how an ideal pilgrim centre should be like.

He also said that as chief minister of Gujarat, he had offered to take the responsibility of reconstructing areas surrounding the temple in 2013 tragedy which killed thousands of people and the then Uttarakhand chief minister had also agreed in principle for the same. Earlier on May 3, the Prime Minister had offered prayers and performed a "rudrabhishek" in the sanctum of the centuries old shrine.

The party claimed that the visit had been planned with Gujarat elections in mind and reflected Modi's "arrogance" as he had addressed a gathering there with his back towards Lord Shiva's shrine "while donning Italian glasses". Kedarpuri town, which encompasses the Kedarnath shrine, had undergone devastation in June 2013 after a glacier lake breached due to heavy rainfall and caused flash floods in the river Mandakini, which passes through the Kedar valley. Was the work done by the then state government, people and the devotees of Lord Shiva to redevelop Kedarnath a waste? During the meeting they agreed.

A few days after Narendra Modi's visit to Uttarakhand, the then BJP president Rajnath Singh told journalists that he had spoken to the then Gujarat CM, who denied having quoted such a figure.

"Out of excitement, I announced it outside to the media". "When we had already started these projects, I fail to understand why the foundation stones were laid by the PM on Friday", Rawat said.In a similar vein, Surendra Kumar, Rawat's spokesperson also targeted the BJP.

Describing these projects as ambitious and expensive, PM Modi asserted that said there would be no dearth of funds to ensure that they are completed in a time-bound manner. Narendra Modi also gave the assurance to the people of Kedarnath that in the pursuit of providing modern amenities, the traditional look of the place will be kept intact.
