  • Bomb attack in Pakistan 7 police killed

However, the nature of the blast is yet to be ascertained.

Home Minister of Balochistan Sarfraz Bugti claimed that Islamic State is not operating in Pakistan, Samaa reported.

The injured have been shifted to Quetta's Civil Hospital where an emergency has been imposed.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and kicked off a search operation in the surroundings.

The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack in an email sent to members of the media.

An investigation is underway to determine whether it was a suicide bombing or whether the explosives-laden vehicle was detonated remotely when the police truck was passing by, he said, adding that the death toll could increase.

At least 22 people, including civilians, were injured in the attack, Khan said.

"We can not yet say that this is a suicide attack, our teams are in research and investigations at scene", Cheema said.

Earlier in June, 14 people - including seven policemen - lost their lives in a suicide blast that shook Shuhada Chowk in Quetta's Gulistan Road area.

Also Wednesday, a roadside bombing near a tribal area along the border with Afghanistan killed two troops. The blast which was carried out remotely occurred near Kajhori check post when the security forces were patrolling the area, a security official said, adding the IED had been planted along Miran Shah road.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi also condemned the attack and directed authorities to provide best medical treatment to the injured.

A local commander of the Pakistani Taliban, Sharyar Mahsud, said his men were responsible for the attack. Afterward, he said such attacks would not bring down the morale of the security forces.

Fifteen people, including eight soldiers, were killed when a suicide bomber targeted a military truck near the Pishin bus stop in Quetta on August 13.
