Facebook acquires tbh, an anonymous compliment app for teens

The app will continue operating as a standalone app under Facebook, a Facebook spokeswoman told The Wall Street Journal.

As per the reports, Facebook has paid under $100 million for the startup app. We could even see parts of tbh's feature implemented in the main Facebook app sometime in the future. This suggests that tbh's widely recognized name and distinctive style persuaded Facebook that it would be better off buying tbh than trying to clone its functionality - something that Facebook's coders could easily do in a very short space of time. The users of this app have shared over 1 Billion messages already which shows the success of this app. Facebook somehow came to know about this app and acquired the app.

Instead of sending each other biting remarks on people's looks or social status, tbh's users can only participate in online polls in which they can rate people in categories like who "Makes you laugh the hardest".

Although users can submit their own poll questions, TBH says it reviews those entries and accepts only submissions that are uplifting, not offensive, appropriate for people ages 13 and older, and that are amusing or interesting.

One of the friends (they have to have also downloaded the app) are notified when they are selected, but the details of who chose them is kept anonymous. The only difference is that they have access to more resources because of Facebook. According to a release on the app's site, the company believes that after expanding communication, the internet's "next milestone will be around meeting people's emotional needs".

They were compelled to sell the company after determining the ways the social media giant could help them. tbh stated Facebook would help realize their vision and give exposure to more people.

"When we met with Facebook, we realized that we shared numerous same core values about connecting people through positive interactions".
