Facebook Delivers Both Food and Elections Now

Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) is rolling out the ability to order food straight through its website.

Facebook launched a service that allows U.S. users to order food for delivery or take out through the app or website. People already go to Facebook to figure out what to eat by reading about nearby restaurants, and seeing what their friends say about them.

As The Verge points out, though, you won't be getting your food from any Facebook-branded delivery guys in gray hoodies and designer sneakers.

"You can browse restaurants nearby by visiting the Order Food section in the Explore menu", Himel explains.

It'll be available at launch in the United States only, and it's rolling out from today to Facebook's apps on iOS, Android and the desktop (Web).

Facebook is making it even easier for you to get food delivered right to your door.

"For example, if you have an account with Delivery.com, you can easily order with your existing login". Rather than interrupt your stalking marathon, simply head on over to a restaurant's Facebook page and click "start order", so you can nourish yourself as you wade deep into the dark early 2000s recesses of your old track teammate's profile.

This move doesn't come as much of a surprise, as it is yet another attempt by Facebook to keep users inside of its app for as long as possible.

Facebook is not directly competing with other food ordering services.

The partnership isn't exclusively with Grubhub (NYSE: GRUB) - Facebook says it has partnered with several companies, including EatStreet, Delivery.com, DoorDash, ChowNow and Olo.

Facebook is not the only tech company to do this.

It's another phase of Facebook's continued efforts to make its app extra-sticky, and reduce the number of times users feel the need to exit it.
