A three-year-old Richardson girl is still missing and police believe her disappearance may have started when her father tried to punish her.

Her father, Wesley Mathews, 37, is now behind bars, facing child endangerment charges. The tree was at least 33 yards away and across an alley.

Wesley Mathews allegedly told police he made his daughter stand in an alley by herself.

Mathews said when he returned 15 minutes later, the little girl was gone. She was last seen wearing pink flip-flops and a pink top, as well as black pajama bottoms.

He was charged with abandoning or endangering a child.

Authorities issued the statewide Amber Alert on Saturday afternoon.

Police resumed their search for the girl on Monday. The couple had a daughter, a year older than Sherin.

She is approximately 36 inches tall and weighs about 22 pounds.

He explained: "We're trying to pick up any type of scent, or items of clothing, or anything like that, that might give us a clue she was there".

The girl is Asian or Pacific with black hair and brown eyes. He was released late Sunday after posting $250,000 bond, Perlich told the Chronicle.

Police said the 3-year-old also suffers from developmental issues and has limited verbal communication skills.

The family called police five hours later to report her missing.
