  • Slovakia focus ahead of their World Cup qualifier with Scotland

Scotland's 2018 World Cup hopes remain alive after a sensational late victor in the 1-0 victory over 10-man Slovakia at Hampden Park.

Thoughts on Scotland chances of reaching the World Cup?

Martin Skrtel's last-gasp own goal sent Gordon Strachan's men into second spot in the group going into the final round of fixtures. We still need to go to Slovenia and win, and even if we do that, we'll have a double-header in the play-offs against another team who have finished second in their group. I know there's 10 men there but that shook us for a bit.

"We knew Sunday wouldn't matter unless we beat Slovakia".

Amid a vociferous atmosphere at Hampden, the hosts had an early penalty claim turned down when Kieran Tierney, playing at right-back, went down under a challenge from Mak, referee Milorad Mazic adjudging there had not been enough contact.

Gordon Strachan's side are missing several key players for this game.

Midway through the first half Martin Dubravka in the Slovakia goal produced an eye-catching save to keep out a headed effort from Christophe Berra but the key moment came in the 23rd minute when Robert Mak was shown a second yellow card for simulation. Forrest drove forward and found Griffiths, the Celtic striker stepped inside centre-back Jan Durica onto his left foot and forced Dubravka to dive low and push clear his curling strike.

"I felt part of it down there and I could see that they had everything under control, it wasn't a problem for me, apart from a couple of misplaced passes and counter attacks".

On 59 minutes Gordon was required again to keep it level and keep alive World Cup dreams.

"The gaffer came over to me because he needed everyone 100% fit", he said.

"There's no doubt about it, the man of the match for them was the goalkeeper (Martin Dubravka), he was magnificent...and the crossbar was good as well!"

As the match neared its conclusion, "Flower of Scotland" could be heard steadily growing before the final whistle was met with a roar louder than any in recent memory.
