Ten days after a 19-year-old Bengaluru youth was kidnapped, his body was recovered from near a Bengaluru lake on Friday.

The police said that Sharath was killed by Vishal and his accomplices the same night they had Sharath send a Whatsapp video to his parents asking them to pay a hefty ransom of Rs 50 lakh to the kidnappers.

Six men arrested by the police for the kidnapping reportedly led the police to the place where they had buried the 19-year-old.

Sharath, son of senior income tax officer Niranjan Kumar was riding his motorcycle with one of his friends on September 12, when he was reportedly kidnapped in a swift desire.

Victim's parents received a Whatsapp video from his phone, where he was asking his parents to arrange the ransom amount and said the kidnappers look like terrorists and may also harm his sister.

Police said the body has been exhumed and further investigations are on.

Vishal said during the confession that when he and his accomplices learnt of the police's involvement, they kept Sharath in a vehicle and moved around the city, the police said. Police found the body of the victim near Rachenahalli lake. Vishal told Sharath to meet near Shirke Apartment at Kengeri Satellite Town, and then later they rode their bikes till Ullal RTO office. Soon after, Vishal visited Sharath's house to console the family. Later, when the body surfaced, the accused removed it from the lake and dumped it in a quarry, the police said.

As the body was found floating two days later, it was again thrown back into the lake by tying it with stones, police said, adding that subsequently, it was taken out and buried to "destroy" evidence. The victim also asked his parents not to file a police complaint. They then took out the decomposed body and went around the city for a day in a vehicle, and then buried it near a quarry at Ajjenahalli in Ramanagaram district, the police said.

Police managed to identify and track down the accused with the help of analysis of mobile communications and the video message sent to Sharath's family, police said.
