FPL incorrectly tells customer her power was restored

  • 1.1 million in Florida still without power after Irma

According to News 6 WKMG, only 13 of Florida's 67 counties do not have outages, and Gould explained crews are working overtime to restore power: "We are racing to get the lights back on, we've been making some really good progress".

The storm had knocked out power to about 1.5 million customers in the state on Monday, more than a third of them in metro Atlanta.

"We have not yet received a copy of the lawsuit, but we can only assume it's another attempt to distract from the city's failure to properly locate and manage its trees, despite having a website that shows the exact location of each of its 38,000 trees", said FPL spokesman Peter Robbins.

During Wilma, 3.24 of FPL's then-4.3 million customers (about 75 percent) lost power, many for more than two weeks. "It's really become house-to-house combat, if you will". It marked the largest restoration of power in a single state in the history of the U.S.

FPL says a big problem is the number of trees that came down, with many of them pulling down power lines.

In Southwest Florida, where the utility's system took the most direct hit, restoration in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, DeSoto and Hendry counties is almost 85% complete but is still projected to be essentially done on Wednesday.

The U.S. Justice Department has received more than 400 fraud complaints involving relief aid after Hurricanes Harvey and Irma and expects a spike in fraud complaints in the coming months, department officials said on Thursday. "Our efforts are centered on getting the lights back on for our customers who have been without power the longest", Silagy said.

"We do understand the hardships that people are going through, especially after Hurricane Irma", he said.

FPL apologized to customers given misinformation.

With Irma, the poles seemed to hold up well against the wind, he said.

"Our customers are angry and frustrated that we could not provide them better information". The lawyers questioned why FPL did not work harder to bury more power lines underground in the 12 years since Wilma; they noted that many areas with underground power lines either did not lose power or regained power far faster than other areas. It is up to the property owners to take care of that debris, such as placing at the curb, McDermitt said.

"We won't stop working until we've restored power to all of our customers", Garner said.
