Scott said he believes the President has had a chance to reflect on the controversial comments he made following the deadly white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. "I was also struck by how receptive the president was to the conversation, and how he reacted during the conversation on ways to improve people's lives", Scott said Wednesday during a conference call with reporters.

Later in the day, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was asked whether Scott expressed displeasure about the president's handling of Charlottesville.

The legislation cleared the Senate on Monday and the House on Tuesday and heads to Trump now.

Aboard Air Force One on the way back from visiting Florida to see the damage wreaked by Hurricane Irma, President Trump fielded questions from reporters.

"However, the real picture has nothing to do with who is on the other side", he said.

In an appearance on CBS Sunday show Face the Nation just after the attack, Scott had said, 'It's going to be very hard for this president to lead if, in fact, his moral authority remains compromised'. Tim Scott's sock game was on point.

Tim Scott used a White House sit-down with the president Wednesday to detail his concerns and work on avoiding similar pitfalls in the future.

"My response was that, while that's true, I mean I think if you look at it from a sterile perspective, there was an antagonist on the other side", Scott said.

The Senate's lone black Republican said he told President Trump to tread carefully when discussing the country's complicated history on race. "So the historical context to me is incredibly important and why the response is so visceral on this topic", Scott said.

Upstaging Trump's black-and-blue error: Scott's fuchsia socks with bright blue polka dots, which social media called "amazing" and "A+".

She adds, "If a stylist dressed the president, they should be fired".

Assuming that Trump ultimately approves the resolution, it would be the second time that Congress has strong-armed the president.

"We had an opportunity to discuss everything from diversifying the echo chamber, as well as protecting this notion of fairness that is a part and parcel of who we are as Americans", said Scott, R-S.C.

Sanders said Trump "looks forward" to signing the resolution, which comes weeks after he was criticized by Democrats and Republicans alike for saying both sides shared blame in the violence and that there were some "very fine people" in the crowd.
