During Modi-Abe Gujarat visit, both the top leaders and other VVIP delegates accompanying them will receive a presidential, sit-down three-plate service with a five-course menu, each course having three sub-courses.

Senior government officials said Japan is increasingly becoming importance for Gujarat and India as a strategic economic partner as Japan has led FDI growth in Gujarat in recent years.

Shinzo Abe and his better half arrived at the Ahmedabad airport on Wednesday afternoon, where PM Modi warmly greeted him for a cultural roadshow to the Sabarmati Ashram.

Though most of Abe's first day was spent sight-seeing, India and Japan did sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the expansion of an global laboratory set up for collaborative research in biotechnology on Wednesday.


The Prime Minister took the guests on a tour of Mahatma Gandhi's ashram for almost 20 minutes, and showed them, among other Gandhi memorabilia, the spinning wheel at Hridaykunj.

An India-Japan Business Plenary will also be held.

On Thursday, PM Modi and his Japanese counterpart will hold the 12th India-Japan Annual Summit, at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar.

Both will also attend a function to mark the commencement of work of India's first high-speed rail project between Ahmedabad and Mumbai.

The most important ones are that yesterday ie PM Modi and Shinzo Abe are laying the foundation of the bullet train project.

"China is pleased to see the infrastructure cooperation among regional countries, including the high-speed railway", Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said.
