  • Google has been accused of abusing its dominance in Europe

This appeal is not suspensive; Google will therefore have to pay the fine.

The EU's competition commission had ruled that Google abused its dominant position to favor its own shopping comparison service in internet searches, ordering the company to stop the practice by September 28. The company declined to give further details of its appeal.

The fine was the largest penalty ever issued by the regulator, which also said the firm could face more fines if it continued its practices.

The Commission is reviewing its Google Shopping decision in light of the ECJ's Intel ruling, according to Reuters.

The Luxembourg-based general court, Europe's second-highest, is expected to take several years before ruling on Google's appeal, which had been widely expected.

Spokesperson for the commission said it will defend its decision in court.

Google is fighting its record $2.7 billion antitrust fine from the European Commission.

The appeal lodged by Google will not help it to suspend the fine, however, it can put the money in a blocked account until the final decision.

European Union is expected to decide another case against Google over abusing its dominance of internet search to impose its Andriod mobile operating system.

The EU fined the internet giant for abusing its dominance in Europe to position its own shopping comparison service at the top of Google search results.

"What Google has done is illegal under EU antitrust rules", EU Commissioner Margrethe Vestager at the time. These concern the contracts for its AdSense advertising service and the licensing of its Android mobile phone operating system.
