Arsenal confident of Lemar deal

  • The newspaper of the mercato Arsenal still dreams of Lemar

But a deal for Lemar did not go through, much to Monaco's delight after they had already parted ways with a number of key men including Kylian Mbappe, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Bernardo Silva.

According to The Mirror, Manchester United will battle Arsenal with a club-record move for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar during the January transfer window.

Lemar is rumored to have snubbed Arsenal despite their efforts to sign him all summer while some sources believe that the deal did not come to fruition due to the player's absence during the worldwide break.

The newspaper also says the player has agreed a five-year contract worth £250,000-a-week and the deal is not dependent on Sanchez joining City amid claims Pep Guardiola is ready to launch a £30m swoop this winter. "I think he's a player who has an enormous availability", the Arsenal boss said.

So, that could see a change in Monaco's model of signing young players and turning them into top quality players to sell for huge profits.

Wenger wants Lemar to fill departing Alexis Sanchez's boot at the Emirates.

However, since Sanchez has made his intentions of leaving the club very clear, Arsenal could find themselves in a soup should they fail to replace the Chilean. Lemar wants to play in the Champions League, which Manchester United and Liverpool are competing in.

He'd be an outstanding buy for Arsenal, United or Liverpool, though with Monaco in such a strong position, it may even require a fee greater than £92 million to prise him away from the club. That could well happen with Thomas Lemar but the vice-president doesn't seem to mind.
