  • Newcastle United's Jamaal Lascelles celebrates after the final whistle

Renato Sanches endured a frustrating Premier League debut as a toothless Swansea City was beaten 1-0 at home by Newcastle United on Sunday.

Having earlier cleared a shot off his own goal line, Jamaal Lascelles headed home the victor from a corner in the 77th minute as Newcastle picked up a second straight victory.

Newcastle make the long trip to South Wales on Sunday afternoon with Rafa Benitez's men looking to build on their first Premier League victory of the season against West Ham before the worldwide break.

"Yeah, he wanted to come and wanted to do everything he could to attend but the weather conditions were not the best", he said.

"All of the staff were involved and have been working very hard".

Newcastle went closer after 33 minutes when Ritchie's cross was met by the head of Joselu and Fabianski sprang to his left to pull off a fantastic one-handed save.

Sanches started after his shock loan move from Bayern Munich and striker Bony replaced the Portugal midfielder in the final quarter as he made his second debut for the club.

The hosts missed two clear chances to break the deadlock at the Liberty Stadium, with Alfie Mawson heading wide in the first half before Tammy Abraham saw an effort cleared off the line after rounding the goalkeeper.

Lascelles was left unmarked as he connected for Newcastle's victor and made no mistake, giving Fabianski no chance.

The defeat means that Clement has now lost back-to-back home league games for the first time in his managerial career. "He was there watching and hopefully he is back soon and can join us", said Lascelles. It is down to us to bring it every week.

De Miguel said on Friday: "It will be Rafa's decision, but also he is taking into consideration our feelings, I think in this case even more because he hasn't seen the players training and Rafa normally has this feeling for the momentum of everybody".

"Swansea have done well to sign him - Paul Clement's ties to Bayern and friendship with Carlo Ancelotti has got a lot to do with it, but that's when you've got to capitalise on stuff like that".
