Hillary Clinton said President Donald Trump comforted "millions of white people" with his campaign during an interview airing Sunday on CBS.

In an interview with CBS' Jane Pauley, her first on a tour for her new book, "What Happened", Clinton dismissed the idea that her comment, made at a September 9, 2016, campaign event, had an impact on the outcome of the election. "It is still very painful". "I really struggled, I couldn't feel anything, I couldn't think, I was just stunned and totally exhausted".

JANE PAULEY: So, I'm wondering: How are you?

"I am done with being a candidate", she added.

Jane Pauley asked Clinton on "CBS Sunday Morning".

Indeed, in excerpts of her book that have leaked, Clinton takes swipes at many Democrats, including rivals like Sen. "I was just gob-smacked, wiped out", Clinton recalled. "I'm sorry I gave them a political gift of any kind, but I don't think it was determinative", said Clinton.

She also explained why she called put many Trump supporters in what she called a "basket of deplorables", citing his lewd comments made on Access Hollywood.

But Clinton also acknowledged her own shortcomings, including what she said was a failure to articulate her understanding of voters' frustrations.

While the NY real estate mogul was busy "referencing a nostalgia that would give hope, comfort (and) settle grievances" for millions of Americans, Clinton said she was seeking to offer answers to that resentment, not fan the flames.

"I felt a huge sense of abandonment, loss of feelings, of direction and of sadness", she entrusted to him and to heal she has wandered far into the woods, has stowed away in the cupboards, and "drank a good amount of Chardonnay". Conducted by Jane Pauley, it got right down to business with a blunt admission from the former USA senator and secretary of state: Her concession speech came a day late in large part because she hadn't written one.

"A lot of people don't want to hear about my plans".

Today's interview, conducted in Clinton's home outside New York City, showed the former nominee apparently still uncomfortable with what happened in last year's election - and admitting she was unprepared for the conditions in the United States that led to Trump's victory.

"I love Hillary", said Sen.
