Suspect in active shooter situation at OH high school in custody

  • Police responded to Scioto High School in Columbus on Friday morning

Authorities identified the suspect as 18-year-old Adan Abdullahi.

Just before 8 a.m. (CT), people were being asked to avoid the areas of South High Street and Southgate Drive.

Columbus Police said they were called about an active shooter at 8:33 a.m. and arrested a suspect by 8:58 a.m. Police Chief Kimberley Jacobs praised a school employee who managed to calm the armed teen down before he was taken into custody, according to CBS News. Abdullahi may face other charges, police said.

At this time, it's unclear if the gunman is a student at the school or if any shots were fired.

The suspect was arrested less than a half-hour later and is now being questioned.

The incident occurred at Scioto High School in Columbus.
