Basketball star Steph Curry called out a PGA Tour pro who said there was "no chance in hell" he'd break 76 on his Web.com Tour debut after shooting 74.

It appeared he was accomplishing the latter at TPC Stonebrae in California, evident by his increasingly loose nature as the round unfolded on the way to a four-over 74 on Thursday.

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry knows a thing or two about sinking long-range shots. On the backside, Curry again carded a 37 - making two more birdies to go along with two bogeys and a costly double bogey on the par 4-fifth hole.

The clubhouse lead is held by American Brandon Harkins after his six-under round of 64.

"I've been looking forward to this and to finally hit my first shot in tournament play was a really, really nervous moment - but it was everything I hoped for".

Curry's other playing partner, Stephan Jaeger, shot 67.

So far though, action on the event has been sparse, with the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook taking just one bet on Curry to win the tournament.

No one expected much from Curry, who previous year played in the pro-am at the PGA Tour's season opener in Napa.

"It was an unbelievable experience, and to shoot two 74s, I'll take that", Curry said (via USA Today).

"I was asked if I thought he was going to break 80, and that's the hand grenade question", Paul Casey said. And Sam Ryder won last week on the Web.com Tour.

"Clearly, he is", Johnson said. You've still got to put the ball in the hole. "First opportunity to play with these guys, first tee shot was insane, first par I made trying to settle in and then obviously the first birdie was a really cool moment". "It's not surprising, but it is surprising at the same time because he's playing a professional event".
