HORROR Trenton Cornell Duranleau was murdered in Chicago on July 27

Chicago police say a Northwestern University professor and a University of Oxford employee wanted in the fatal stabbing of a Chicago man are in custody in Oakland, California. Cornell-Duranleau was found dead in Lathem's apartment in Chicago after "some type of falling out".

Wyndham Lathem, an associate professor of microbiology-immunology, surrendered to authorities in Oakland on Friday, and Andrew Warren, who works in an administrative capacity at Oxford, was arrested in San Francisco, the Chicago Tribune reported. Warren, a Somerville College resident at Oxford University in England, was taken to the San Francisco County Jail.

The two men are suspected in the July 27 murder of Trenton Cornell-Duranleau, 26.

Earlier on Friday, police said that Lathem allegedly had sent a video message to family and friends in which he apologized for his part in the killing.

Both men - taken into custody without incident - will appear before an Oakland court and are now awaiting extradition to IL, where they will be questioned by Chicago homicide detectives. Police have not said why the suspects were in California and have not released details on what led up to the murder.

Detectives said they believed they knew their whereabouts but wanted to end the situation calmly without another "tragedy".

Lathem's passport and Warren's travel visa have been restricted, Guglielmi said. Ed Grittzner says a person handed a library worker $1,000 in cash. Officers were dispatched to the scene after an employee at the front desk in Lathem's apartment building called police to report receiving an anonymous call that a crime had been committed in Lathem's apartment.

Police disclosed yesterday that on the day of Mr Cornell-Duranleau's death on July 27, Dr Lathem and Mr...

'I've never seen where suspects in a homicide would make a donation in the victim's name, ' said Lake Geneva police Lieutenant Edward Gritzner. When police opened the door they found Cornell-Duranleau's body.

There, officers found a man with several lacerations to his body, police said.
