That makes what he's doing right now important - but the limitations of his criticism (and that of other Republicans) is a warning to us that there's only so far we can expect members of the president's party to go, no matter how bad things get.
In an excerpt of the bookpublished by Politico, Flake rails against the "Faustian bargain" conservatives struck by embracing Trump, one he admits "was not worth it".
"We shouldn't hesitate to speak out if the president "plays to the base" in ways that damage the Republican Party's ability to grow and speak to a larger audience", he wrote. At any rate, they say, the serious investigations by Senate committees are highly unusual for a Congress to inflict on a new same-party administration. Unfortunately, that will not happen until after the 2018 mid-term elections. Not exactly a program of full-throated opposition.

The relationship between US President Donald Trump and Senate Republicans has deteriorated so sharply in recent days that some are openly defying his directives, bringing long-simmering tensions to a boil as the party labours to reorient its stalled legislative agenda.
At that moment, the question we often mull over - can Trump hold on to his party? - will become absolutely vital to the future of the country.
"There was a time when the leadership of the Congress from both parties felt an institutional loyalty that would frequently create bonds across party lines in defense of congressional prerogatives in a unified front against the White House, regardless of the president's party", Flakewrites.
Trump's Scottish golf courses are hemorrhaging money (they lost $1.8M in 2015) and the only way they can be profitable is if they're allowed to expand, but that's nearly certainly not going to happen. Obamacare repeal is about configuring the government's role in health insurance. Grassley vowed there would be no hearings for a replacement attorney general if Trump axed Jeff Sessions to clear the way to removing Mueller. Some of them criticized his decision to ban transgender Americans from serving in the military. "We have quite enough volatile actors to deal with internationally as it is without becoming one of them". The GOP is still emphatically behind Trump, to its everlasting shame.

Lee's response? That he doesn't like racism. "It's unfortunate that America didn't get to see what I had with each one of you". I admittedly would watch Pretty Boy Pitbull Kenny King Teaches Lee How Not to Be Racist so hard. "I'm just kidding.
