A large explosion and a subsequent building collapse at Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has left several people injured and missing.

All summer program students and staff have been accounted for. Tyner confirmed that three people were rescued from the roof. He said there is also medical staff at the scene. She told a Star Tribune reporter she saw the windows "just burst out". "Our hopes are that they are not in there".

Authorities say two people are unaccounted for after an explosion and partial building collapse at a grade school in Minneapolis.

Authorities say nine people were hospitalized, but only four people remain with one in critical condition. HCMC tweeted at 9:19 p.m. that they are now treating four people - one is critical and three are in satisfactory condition. "This could've been a lot worse". "We will keep you informed as we learn more". Still, he added, "It was a awful tragedy". Six other patients who were brought to the hospital after Wednesday's blast have been released.

Investigators confirmed gas work near the boiler was being done at the time. It's not clear why they were on the roof.

There was a gas leak and explosion at the Upper School. He said crews were working to put out a fire in the building and searching for the missing individuals who may be trapped in the rubble. 'We will conduct an investigation to determine the cause'.

The search was conducted beneath at least two floors of debris in an attempt to locate the body, the family members of whom are being contacted by the medical examiner's office.

Within seconds of the powerful explosion, residents poured onto sidewalks and front lawns, stunned at the burning pile of rubble that moments before was a century old school. He said no one was treated for burns.

Tyner emphasized that the two unaccounted for might not even be in the building.

"It was dark so we had to feel our way out", she said. He states his daughter was getting up to evacuate when the explosion knocked her back into the office.

"As soon as we saw it we got in the auto, and someone drove away because we didn't know how safe the situation was".

Minnehaha Academy President Donna Harris survived the explosion.

The school says Berg worked there for 17 years. "That's the stairwell that connects the entire school to everything".

Flames continued to burn an hour after the explosion, likely fed by gas lines, but were ultimately extinguished.

"This is a day of extraordinary heartbreak in Minneapolis", Mayor Betsy Hodges told the news conference.

Some first responders also reported smelling natural gas as they pulled people to safety. "This private, Christian school sponsored by by the Northwest Conference of the Evangelical Covenant church, serves approximately 900 students from the Twin Cities area".
